Heather A. Rubin

Heather A. Rubin, Esq. is a compassionate and detail-driven family law attorney who focuses her practice on helping clients feel heard, supported, and empowered during some of the most stressful moments of their lives. She primarily concentrates on cases involving children, including divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, post-decree parenting-time modifications, including emergency motions to restrict parenting time and relocation cases. Heather also handles paternity, dependency and neglect, and cases involving third party APR and guardianship matters. With nearly two decades of experience, Heather brings both skill and empathy to every case she handles.

Heather grew up in a family of attorneys and always felt drawn to the law, but her deeper inspiration came from wanting to advocate for people who don’t feel heard. She understands that many clients come to family law feeling invisible, overwhelmed, or dismissed. By listening closely and helping clients translate their experiences into a clear legal narrative, she restores a sense of control and direction. Heather believes that when clients understand their options, fear decreases and meaningful progress becomes possible.

A graduate of Naropa University, Pepperdine School of Law, and Albany Law School, Heather was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 2005. Her career has included family law, estate matters, dependency and neglect cases, and complex litigation. Prior to joining her current practice, she ran her own law firm and served as a consultant and Of Counsel attorney on highly detailed mass-tort and pharmaceutical litigation.

Heather is known for her strong writing, legal analysis, organization, and ability to de-escalate intense situations. She frequently tells clients they never need to hesitate to ask questions, even the same one twice, because understanding the process is essential to feeling safe and supported. She settles approximately 85% of her cases, valuing resolution whenever possible while acting swiftly in emergencies to protect children and families.

Outside of her practice, Heather is a competitive marathon runner, having completed over 25 marathons nationally and internationally. She also enjoys art and has volunteered with organizations such as Metro Volunteer Lawyers, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

Exceptional advocate in a complex, high-conflict case
“I highly recommend Barbara Johnson-Stern. My case was extremely challenging, and she proved to be an outstanding advocate from start to finish. She was able to confidently take on a “bulldog” opposing attorney while remaining professional, strategic, and exceptionally well-prepared. She knows the law, stands her ground, and presents with credibility and confidence in court. Throughout the entire process she was responsive, accessible, and fully engaged in the case. I have worked with many professionals over the years, and her level of preparation, integrity, and effectiveness truly stood out. If you are facing a difficult legal situation and want someone who will advocate for you with skill, professionalism, and results, you will be in excellent hands.”
