    Shawn Hillewaert

    Shawn Hillewaert is a family law attorney of The Harris Law Firm in Colorado with a strong commitment to supporting families through complex legal matters.

    Inspired by his mother, who began law school later in life and still practices felony trials at 75, Shawn developed an early appreciation for the legal profession. His own experiences navigating a family divorce and custody battle further motivated him to pursue a legal career. He earned a B.S. in Economics and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Utah, including a student exchange program at Universidad Regiomontana in Monterrey, Mexico, before attending the University of Wyoming College of Law.

    Before joining The Harris Law Firm, Attorney Hillewaert primarily handled DUI defense and domestic violence cases. In that role, he realized the positive impact legal work can have for a client. For example, standing up for a DUI defendant allowed Shawn to also help people start the path to sobriety. Advising clients through a case and showing them how to move forward in their lives, eventually led Shawn to family law, where he could contribute to the well-being of entire family units.

    Shawn takes a client-centered approach, placing a high priority on clear communication and ensuring his clients feel supported throughout the process, while understanding how emotional and stressful family law cases can be. He recognizes that no two cases are alike, especially when children and property are involved, and he tailors his strategies to each client’s unique circumstances. He encourages perseverance, helps clients focus on the bigger picture, and reassures them that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

    Shawn is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to communicate effectively with clients whose preferred language is Spanish.

    When he is not working on a case, Shawn enjoys spending time with his wife and family and is an avid motorcyclist.
